Super Mario 3D World

Super-Mario-3D-World

Super Mario Bros has always been a cherished classic by many gamers, and has seen some interesting spin offs and ideas. The newest installment of the franchise for the Wii U is Super Mario 3D World. This game sticks a bit closer to its roots, being a platformer instead of the latest cart racer or tennis match. Although Super Mario 3D World isn’t just any platformer, it is a multiplayer platformer in a 3D world. It is the first Super Mario game to be multiplayer.

Taking advantage of the Wii U GamePad, you can play off-TV like many of the Wii U titles, but also you can freeze enemies (just like in Super Mario Galaxy) and reveal invisible objects. The camera is also controlled by tilting the GamePad, which can be used to reveal hidden areas. Going back to Mario-themed re-skin of Doki Doki Panic, known as Super Mario Bros 2, you can play as the different characters, Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, for their different talents.

The new power-up highlighted in this game is the cat suit. This allows you to pounce on enemies and claw at them. It can also be used to climb up the flagpole at the end to get the extra life. The Tanooki suit also makes a comeback, having the same tail floating and whacking as before.

Super Mario 3D World is a good enough reason in itself to make the purchase of a Wii U. It’s great classic style with new twists makes it both a throwback game, as well as a completely new one. The game itself is only $59.99, with the deluxe set of the Wii U Console being only $335.81 on Amazon.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

38 Studios, creators of “Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning” were gearing up to create a patch across all platforms. Unfortunately 38 Studios laid off all of its staff on Thursday of last week after if failed to get more funding from the state of Rhode Island.   Reckoning has sold over 1.2 million copies during its first 90 days on the market, but it needed to sell over 3 million just to break even. It’s a strong game with few bugs, but the patch would have included tew new difficulty modes, a jazzed-up camera, some bug fixes and some other special additions. With the demise of the company, it’s highly unlikely that the path will ever be created.   Still, it’s a good game, so check it out:  ...
